In the past week I've read about two things happening in Second Life that would otherwise be clear harbingers of the Singularity if they occurred in the real world: First was something akin to a cornucopia machine (CopyBot) incident. Now they've had a grey goo outbreak. Curiouser and curiouser. (Credit where it's due: the "cornucopia machine" was in Charles Stross' Singularity Sky)

I think that's what the Lindens want us to believe. They may put a cool label of grey goo on the worm's product, the rings, but real product of grey goo whould not be rings. I think real grey goo would be taking matter and converting it to more grey goo.If it were a real grey goo attack in SL I imagine a slime of sorts creeping onto islands gobbling everything up including avatars. I imagine watching buildings oozing down to ground level in a heap of grey sludge. That's the grey goo scenario I imagine.
